My Precious Name
By Heidi Velarde
I became the prey
Of a man one day.
He led me astray
From the school’s doorway.
I was seized with fright.
He is taller than my height.
I felt all his might.
He knows I can't fight.
I'm the victim he abused.
He is a cop who was amused.
I'm the woman he accused.
I'm the suspect hurt and bruised.
No rescue ever came
To spare me of the blame.
To add on to the shame,
Now my life ain't the same.
He defamed my precious name.
It's a pain I have to bear
'Cause Union City doesn't care.
They trust a cop who teaches DARE.
You won't see me go back there.
